Over the last 2 years, Health Ambassadors in Barnet have worked with communities across the borough to increase awareness and understanding of different health topics. Using funding from Royal Free Charity, we are recruiting two Health Ambassadors to drive forward work in reducing cancer inequalities in Barnet, by raising awareness and understanding of early cancer symptoms and increasing access / removing barriers to cancer screening uptake.
The Health Ambassadors will be part of a small team in Groundwork. They will work with Voluntary, Community, Faith and Social Enterprise (VCFSE) stakeholders to identify events, forums or workshops they can attend to raise awareness of cancer symptoms and screening. Engagement will differ according to the event. The Health Ambassador will engage with members of the public through both 121 discussions and through the delivery of workshop presentations on cancer symptom awareness / screening. Health Ambassadors will receive training in cancer symptom awareness and screening as part of their induction.
Furthermore, Health Ambassadors will work with Public Health to understand wider health priorities in the borough and, where feasible, raise awareness on these topics. This could include supporting digital inclusion, raising awareness of childhood immunisations or mental health.
In Barnet, the Health Ambassador team will prioritise engagement with the following communities:
- Eastern European
- South Asian
- Black African
Please contact us if you have:
- Awareness of health inequalities on communities in Barnet
- Passionate to increase / raise awareness of health prevention in the community
- Connected to one or more of the priority communities listed above
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills in group and one to one settings
- Experience in planning and/or delivering health engagement events and activities within targeted communities
