The City of London Corporation’s Environment Department is at the forefront of managing and enhancing some of London’s most iconic green spaces, parks, and heritage sites. The department is dedicated to promoting sustainability, biodiversity, and environmental resilience across the City’s vast portfolio of natural environments, which includes Hampstead Heath, Epping Forest, and West Ham Park. As part of this mission, we are seeking an experienced and innovative Deputy Director of Natural Environment to play a leading role in shaping the future of these vital spaces and driving forward key conservation and sustainability initiatives.

As Deputy Director of Natural Environment, you will oversee significant areas such as natural and cultural heritage, learning initiatives, and carbon removal projects, contributing to the City’s ambitious environmental objectives. You will be responsible for delivering innovative strategies that protect and enhance London’s green spaces whilst developing strong partnerships and income generation plans to ensure long-term sustainability.

We are looking for an accomplished leader with extensive experience in the environmental conservation or charitable sectors. Your expertise in managing complex projects, building high-performing teams, and forging strategic partnerships with government bodies, NGOs, and local authorities will be essential in this role. Additionally, you will be instrumental in shaping the governance and fundraising strategies that support the preservation of London’s unique natural environment.

Working closely with the Natural Environment Director, you will lead on key initiatives, including carbon removal at West Ham Park and conservation investments at Hampstead Heath and Wanstead Park, whilst driving broader strategies around environmental resilience, visitor engagement, and land management.

About You
This role requires a strategic thinker with a strong background in conservation, heritage, or environmental services. You will have a proven track record of managing large-scale projects and delivering innovative solutions. Strong leadership and communication skills are critical, as you will engage with senior stakeholders, Members, and external partners to shape and implement the City’s environmental strategies.

If you are a passionate and visionary leader committed to sustainability and protecting natural heritage, we would love to hear from you.
