About the team

The Woodland Carbon Code team in Scottish Forestry is responsible for the management and development of the Woodland Carbon Code (WCC), a carbon standard whose use is rapidly expanding. We work with project developers, buyers and intermediaries on the development of new projects, as well as with validators and verifiers who third-party check all projects.

The Woodland Carbon Code team is part of the Policy and Practice team at Scottish Forestry. Scottish Forestry is an agency of Scottish Government. Our purpose is the sustainable management and expansion of forest and woodlands to deliver more for Scotland.

What you will do

The Woodland Carbon Code Co-ordinator will support the WCC team and regional teams to over-see the registration, validation, verification and promotion of woodland carbon projects across the UK.

You will support project developers as they take projects through the Woodland Carbon Code validation and verification process; provide administrative and technical support to the Woodland Carbon Code team; help create and refine new administrative systems; and build strong working relationships with project developers delivering carbon projects.

This is an opportunity to help shape a rapidly evolving work area to scale up our response to the climate emergency.

Main Duties

Manage operational functions for the Woodland Carbon Code, working closely with project developers and regional forest agency teams across the UK and assisting with promotions and marketing:

Operations

  • Manage the running of the UK Land Carbon Registry – ensuring the following actions are completed efficiently, account applications, registrations, carbon unit issuances and transfers.
  • Work with project developers to achieve key milestones within permitted timescales.
  • Provide a secretariat function for WCC Executive Board and Advisory Board Meetings.
  • Support the WCC Disputes Committee, liaising with project developers.
  • Provide advice to national and regional teams and ensure good communication and information sharing.
  • Source, organise and manage accurate records on a range of platforms (including MS Excel, GIS, UK Land Carbon Registry and MS Teams).
  • Participate in systems management and updates, identifying efficiencies and improved ways of managing carbon projects.
  • Contribute to the wider activities of the WCC team as required.

Promotion and marketing:

  • Manage communication channels for the WCC, sending out news updates to the mailing list and on social media (e.g., LinkedIn and Twitter).
  • Contribute to WCC marketing initiatives.
  • Support the team with website maintenance including updating market participants.
  • Liaise with project developers across the UK to help them engage efficiently with the Woodland Carbon Code.

Success Profile

The Success Profile below set outs the essential and desirable elements that make up the vacant position - you’ll be expected to demonstrate these elements in your application and/or during your interview and/or assessment.

  • Experience in information management demonstrating attention to detail in managing, organising and analysing data.
  • Flexibility and enthusiasm for learning new skills and acquiring technical knowledge in a quickly evolving new work area.

Behaviours

On the application form you’ll find four free text boxes to provide your behaviour responses. Please note, you’re only required to provide evidence against the below behaviours on your application. This means that if less than four behaviours are noted, you can leave the relevant free text(s) box blank on your application.

Behaviour 2: Working Together.

Behaviour 3: Changing and Improving.

Behaviour 4: Delivering at Pace.

What we offer you

If successful, you will be entitled to a wide range of benefits, the detail of which can be found here

Additional information

We believe it’s important to create an inclusive and supportive work culture, and we welcome applications from everyone, regardless of background.

It’s important you complete the entire application form (where relevant) in sufficient detail – this will give you the best chance of being invited for interview and/or assessment. Where a vacancy attracts a higher number of applications, only ‘Behaviour 1 - lead criteria’ will be assessed at sift stage. However, it is still important that you complete the entire application form in sufficient detail, as there is no way of knowing that a vacancy will have a high number of applications.

Closing date: Applications will be accepted until 11:55pm on the 18 April 2022.
