Wild Trout Trust Conservation Officer
Southern England
Salary in the region of £30,000 p.a. but negotiable, based on experience and hours of work. Ideally full-time but also negotiable. 9% pension contribution. 5 weeks holiday if full time (or pro rata). Initial twelve-month contract but success in the post will ensure its extension.
A brilliant opportunity to join the Wild Trout Trust (WTT) as a Conservation Officer, giving practical advice and help in the management and improvement of river habitat, particularly in southern England.
WTT is a charity dedicated to the conservation of wild trout in the UK and Ireland through protection and restoration of habitat. We work with many stakeholders to further the conservation of wild trout, including farmers, riparian owners, fishing clubs, community groups, other NGOs, academia and government agencies.
Is it YOU?
If so, you
- self-start, are highly motivated, good at lone and team working
- have proven experience that could fit this job e.g. river habitat restoration, practical project management and delivery, conservation, land and fishery management (especially for salmonid fisheries)
- are practically savvy, able to organise yourself and others
- communicate wonderfully, orally and in writing
- identify and win sources of project funding
- share WTT’s ethos and values.
You’ll offer advice and practical help to our many stakeholders and deliver river habitat improvement projects at a range of scales, from start to finish, primarily in southern England.

Since WTT staff are home-based, applicants need to live in, or be prepared to move into, this geographical area. You will join an existing team of expert Conservation Officers, working especially closely with colleagues based in southern England.
We are keen for you to start as soon as possible, initially on a one-year contract but that will extend if you are successful.
