Description

We are looking for a highly motivated and conscientious Associate Programme Officer to work in the Ecosystem Assessment and Policy Programme.

You’ll  contribute to the Centre’s work on national ecosystem assessments; biodiversity indicator development, implementation and communication at global, regional and national scales; the development of natural capital related approaches including ecosystem accounting; and the links of such tools with the development of national biodiversity strategies and multi-lateral environmental agreements (MEAs) and the integration of biodiversity into wider decision making for sustainable development.

Your key areas of responsibility will include providing technical, analytical and administrative support on a wide range of live and development projects, undertaking background research, drafting reports and papers, preparing communications materials, and helping to organise international capacity building workshops and other events.  You will also have the opportunity to participate in conferences, workshops and other specialist meetings on behalf of UNEP-WCMC – for the time being these opportunities are via remote means.

You will hold a degree in biological sciences, geography, ecology, environmental sciences, economics, social sciences or a related discipline and will possess strong technical and analytical skills. You will also have great organisational, communications and planning skills. Commitment to producing high quality outputs is also an essential requirement.

If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post, we want to hear from you. Please complete our application form and send it together with your CV and a short covering letter through the link below by 23rd November 2020

WCMC attaches great importance to addressing safeguarding and ethical considerations in all activities carried out by its staff, including where partner organisations or individuals are part of the delivery of our work. This includes children and vulnerable adults in the community who may be vulnerable to abuse. WCMC act with integrity, are transparent and expect applicants to share the same values.

WCMC is a UK charity that promotes for public benefit the conservation, protection, enhancement and support of nature and natural resources worldwide. We do this by collecting, storing, processing, analysing, interpreting and sharing data that increase our knowledge and understanding of biodiversity and the conservation of nature. Good data are the foundation of informed decision-making and we work with many partners to help them develop their knowledge and capacity to make good decisions.

We collaborate with the United Nations Environment Programme within the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).

Please note this is not a UN post and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.
