Job Purpose Summary
You will be working as part of a dispersed team successfully delivering measures to reward farmers and other land managers for low carbon, nature positive, and sustainable land management. This work supports the Scottish Government’s commitment to reach Net Zero, and deal with the twin global emergencies of climate change and biodiversity loss. Specifically, you will be working with colleagues as well as farmers, crofters and other land managers on the Agri-Environment Climate Scheme (AECS) and supporting work to deliver against NatureScot’s corporate objective to demonstrate how agriculture and land use can be transformed with new approaches to deliver targeted outcomes for nature and climate.
AECS is currently the main financial support mechanism enabling land managers to deliver on biodiversity and climate mitigation in rural Scotland. It is a competitive scheme to which land managers must apply and is administered jointly by SG Rural Payments and Inspections Division (RPID) and NatureScot. NatureScot assesses applications relating to Protected Areas (SSSI and European sites), deer management and peatland restoration.
You should have a degree in a relevant subject or equivalent qualification or experience in an environmental discipline or rural land management. Alternatively you should be able to demonstrate qualification by relevant experience.
