Location: Worldwide- Flexible Hybrid work: Remote/ Ship visit
As part of our ongoing commitment to sustainability, The Apollo Group is looking for an experienced Sustainability Manager to join our team.
The role will be responsible for development, implementation and auditing of ESG program, working closely with all internal and external partners and ensuring The Apollo Group operates in full compliance with international and national sustainability laws, regulations, practices and standards.
This is a shoreside position. Previous marine experience is NOT required but is welcomed.
Reports to: SVP Ops
Job Description:
The Manager ESG compliance will be responsible for ensuring the company’s adherence to sustainable practices, ethical standards and compliance with regulatory requirements.
Goals:
Develop and Implement Governance and Compliance Strategies
- Design, develop and implement client-tailored, sustainable ESG frameworks and compliance programs, in line with international standards and regulatory requirements. This includes developing policies, procedures and guidelines for compliance with standards of environmental stewardship, ethical conduct and social responsibility.
- Reporting to The Apollo Group’s Executive Leadership and leading the implementation of the programs across the different branches of the business (e.g. Procurement, Operations, HR etc.)
Risk Assessment, Mitigation and Operational improvements
- Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify sustainability risk assessments and compliance gaps. Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies, including monitoring, reporting and implementation of corrective actions plans.
Partnership and Engagement:
- Build strong relationships by collaborating with internal and external partners and clients, ensuring the business operates in alignment with sustainability goals.
- Engage with industry partners, non-governmental organizations and regulators to stay updated on evolving standards and best-practices.
- Coordinating with clients to structure the ESG program to meet their needs while balancing contract constraints and The Apollo Groups broader business strategy
Reporting, Integrity and Transparency:
- Oversee the development and submission of sustainability reports and disclosures to relevant partners and clients, ensuring integrity, accuracy, transparency, and compliance with established reporting frameworks
Sustainable Business Development strategies:
- Oversee the development and tracking of key metric reports like lost time injury reports, and develop strategies for risk mitigation and improving the safety of all employees and clients.
- Identify value creating opportunities, to improve organizational performance through improved employee engagement, operational efficiency and cost savings through energy and waste management.
Hard Skills
- Strong knowledge of sustainability principles, governance frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
- Expertise in implementing compliance programs, risk management, and reporting frameworks.
- Familiarity with sustainability reporting standards and frameworks (GRI, SASB, etc.).
- Proficient in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting tools.
Soft Skills
- Excellent communication and ability to communicate and manage multiple internal and external partners
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to lead cross-functional teams and influence partners at all levels.
- Proactive mindset and ability to adapt to evolving sustainability trends and challenges.
Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience in corporate sustainability management, ESG, financial reporting, or related discipline; in a corporate setting or a large consulting firm; including experience leading people.
- Experience in hospitality or maritime Industry
- Experience developing and managing EHS program for hospitality or maritime industry.
- Bachelor's or master’s in business, Accounting, Finance, Sustainability, Environment, Engineering, or a similar field.
- Knowledge of ESG frameworks like SASB, ISSB, GRI, CDP and understanding of emerging ESG regulations including the SEC's and CA's carbon rules; and the EU's CSRD and CSDDD.
- Experience with managing compliance of ISO 14001 standards
- Proficiency in data collection, analysis, and reporting tools and prior experience using ESG reporting and data management systems (e.g., Workiva).
- Proven project management skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks & competing priorities while working effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated successes with corporate operations/governance of an ESG/Sustainability program, ability to work with management team to identify ways to identify opportunities in investing in ESG program to create value for the organization.
- Outstanding analysis, oral and written communication, and presentation skills; effective in conducting research and synthesizing information for senior leaders.
- Driven, self-starter who is passionate about making a positive impact.
