Overview

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s mission is to promote and achieve the worldwide conservation of animals and their habitats. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Role Profile

The post holder will assist the SPOTT Engagement and Impacts Manager with activities required to ensure that SPOTT has a high impact with its target audience. SPOTT is a ZSL initiative which provides detailed upstream company assessments on disclosure of operations and commitments and progress towards the implementation of best practice. The successful candidate will support the team with engagement activities, including with the organisation of workshops and training sessions on SPOTT and ongoing evaluation of progress to ensure the maximum uptake and impact of SPOTT by key user groups.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Supporting engagement activities with key SPOTT user groups, including workshops and training sessions.
  • Working with the Engagement and Impacts Manager to support the development of measurable impact indicators and implement these to measure progress and uptake.
  • Responsibility for monitoring and managing the research for a subset of companies appearing on SPOTT, with oversight from the SPOTT Palm Oil Technical Advisor and Forestry Officer.
  • Preparing briefs for user groups relevant to the SPOTT-featured companies, and assisting the line manager in the distribution and impact of these briefs.
  • Contacting companies and influencers for feedback on company assessments, which must be presented and collated in a clear and simple format as agreed with line manager.
  • Support the line manager in the organisation of project-related meetings, webinars and workshops, and the preparation of materials and minutes/meeting reports.
  • Support the line manager with travel and logistical arrangements.
  • Assisting the line manager with the preparation and distribution of promotional and educational material for ZSL publications, newsletters, brochures, posters, project information sheets and provision of regular updates for relevant web pages within the ZSL website.
  • Regular updating to the line manager and others in ZSL regarding progress of the project and other relevant issues, as appropriate.

Person Specification

  • Experience in research and data management.
  • Experience with engagement and outreach activities such as workshops, ideally with the business and finance sectors, is desirable.
  • An understanding of business and biodiversity conservation issues.
  • Familiarity with the palm oil and tropical forestry industries, and/or responsible investment and procurement, is highly desirable.
  • Strong organisational, interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent research skill
