Description

As an executive body of the UK government, the Environment Agency is at the heart of the most pressing issues affecting both the UK and the wider global environment. We are tasked with monitoring and handling a broad range of environmental issues that include conservation, flood defences, water quality and so much more, and we are responsible for regulating industries that have an environmental impact. Our work is both nationally and internationally important, and as such, this is a career defining opportunity to help us improve and protect the natural world. We are currently recruiting for a number of Senior Engagement Specialists, so join us in our forward-thinking team and you will have the scope to get involved in the most fascinating projects.

As a member of the Stakeholder and Engagement team, you will play a vital role in helping us keep projects within the Flood and Coastal Risk Management capital infrastructure programme on track. We are acutely aware of the importance of engaging with our communities and partners in order to successfully deliver our projects. This culture of dialogue must exist long before any decisions are made, and it is here that you will see to it that we are meeting our obligations. Working with teams of expert Engineers and Scientists, plus in-house customer and engagement teams and consultant delivery partners, you will take ownership of planned engagement strategies, and you will identify and tackle stakeholder and engagement risks. With a focus on driving innovation and efficiency, you will review the stakeholder and engagement work that is already taking place in existing programmes, and you will proactively identify further opportunities for engagement. As a trusted partner to governance boards and senior leadership teams, you will help us devise future engagement strategies and standards, and in doing so you will help us deliver our capital and revenue work on time and within budget.

This is a unique opportunity to help us deliver the most ambitious initiatives. To be equal to this highly varied role, you will therefore be an experienced stakeholder and engagement strategy specialist, with exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills, and the capacity to influence outcomes and build trusted networks. With the ability to work off your own initiative, you will be both resilient and curious, and you will enjoy the challenge of providing intelligence that will allow us to constantly drive better outcomes. As these projects evolve rapidly, you will also be comfortable working with ambiguous and changing information.

We are focused on developing and building the skills of our team, so that we are equipped to handle the challenges of the future. You will therefore find a stimulating working environment, with plenty of training and learning opportunities, plus a supportive team culture. We can also offer you a great benefits package that includes a generous pension scheme, plenty of annual leave, flexible working practices plus access to a wide variety of staff networks. Diversity and inclusion is at the heart of what we do. We were in the top 100 Stonewall employer list (2019) and have an active Race Action Plan to support our journey to become an anti-racist organisation and ensure the equity and inclusion of our staff and the communities we serve.

Closing date: 30 September 2021.
