The Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH), part of the Natural Environment Research Council (NERC), is the UK’s Centre of Excellence for research in the terrestrial and freshwater environmental sciences.
About the role
We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed Science Project Administrator to work on high profile projects in the area of Water Resources. The post will be based at CEH's Wallingford headquarters in Oxfordshire and includes an opportunity to participate in a training scheme to improve or update your skills in project management.
This role will provide essential project office support to research teams at our UK sites and collaborators in India to underpin successful delivery of two large projects: COSMOS-UK and the India-UK Joint Virtual Centre. It presents an excellent opportunity to develop within a project environment where there is an emphasis on coordinating activity across multi-disciplinary teams and communication.
About you
A good degree (preferably science or business related) or relevant experience is essential for this role.
You should have an appreciation of how formal project management approaches can be applied from your previous experience.
You take a methodical approach to routine tasks and achieve a high level of accuracy; possess an eye for detail and apply an appropriate approach to quality management.
An ability to work independently, managing your own time effectively to deliver long and short term tasks to agreed deadlines is essential.
You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills that enable you to interact effectively with people at all levels across the organisation and with stakeholders both in the UK and India.
Having some familiarity with modern modes of communication (videoconference and teleconference) and an enthusiasm for learning new IT systems and approaches (websites, databases, applications for document storage and sharing; social media) as the need arises.
You take an efficient approach in the preparation of internal reports and documents due to your skills in using MS Office (primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
You must be able and willing to travel overseas should the need arise to attend occasional meetings and conferences of short duration.

Apprenticeship Opportunity
We will support you to complete an internationally recognized level 4 NVQ in Associate Project Management; accredited by the chartered body APM. This will involve on the job learning and formal training (approx. 30 days off the job) with the Knowledge Academy over 24 months. The apprenticeship is open to anyone, including those who have taken a career break keen to get back into the workplace.
At the end of 24 months and subject to successful completion of the apprenticeship, it is anticipated you would be considered for a permanent position
