We are seeking a remote sensing scientist with a higher degree in a physical, mathematical, computational or biological discipline and experience in remote sensing (RS) analyses and data application.
The scientist will work within UNEP-WCMC’s Science Programme which aims to enhance the scientific quality of the Centre’s work through research, training and partnership development. The main purpose of the job is to provide remote sensing expertise, modelling and spatial analysis skills to support a range of projects and project development opportunities, with an emphasis on the use of remote sensing data and products (e.g., for model development and validation).
The Programme Officer will be engaged in remote sensing opportunity development, remote sensing network building and expansion, and quantitative project analyses that will assist the delivery of projects across the work of UNEP-WCMC. S/he will act as the Centre’s technical lead on the application of remote sensing for the assessment and monitoring of biodiversity, human pressures and ecosystem services.
As well as the skills outlined above, the scientist should have experience in developing, applying and understanding analyses of space and air-borne remote sensing data and modelling approaches, and experience with any of the following: process based models/ecosystem models, model-data integration, mixed effects analyses, integrated assessment models, SSPs/RCPs, climate models, hydrological models, and ecosystem service models.
We will provide you with the challenge of working on high profile conservation projects, where your work really makes a difference to the field of conservation in an area aligned to our strategic aims and broader global initiatives. In addition to training and development opportunities, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including generous pension contributions.
WCMC attaches great importance to addressing safeguarding and ethical considerations in all activities carried out by its staff, including where partner organisations or individuals are part of the delivery of our work. This includes children and vulnerable adults in the community who may be vulnerable to abuse. WCMC act with integrity, are transparent and expect applicants to share the same values.
