We are seeking an organised, proactive and adaptable individual to join our Business and Biodiversity Programme as Programme Officer. This role will work in close collaboration with other programmes at UNEP-WCMC to implement new and existing projects supporting improved biodiversity management by business.
Our team’s focus is on strengthening the role of natural capital in private sector decision making. We work to change the business case for biodiversity management; deliver the knowledge, data, tools and approaches for mitigation and restoration of biodiversity; and ensure businesses and their influencers have the capacity to act.
Working with businesses and their influencers, for example governments and the finance sector, you will support the development of tools, standards, methodologies and metrics, and technical advice for the private sector to integrate biodiversity and natural capital into business models and decision making.
We will provide you with the opportunity to work on high impact projects, where your work really makes a difference to the field of conservation by helping address the impacts and dependencies of businesses on biodiversity and natural capital. In addition to training and development opportunities, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including generous pension contributions.
This role will have a focus on addressing the environmental and social challenges associated with land use change and unsustainable land use. This includes deforestation and conversion of natural ecosystems driven by financial mechanisms and commodity trade. It will involve developing and mainstreaming land-based good practice to minimize risks and promote positive impacts of both business and financial institutions on climate, forests, biodiversity and people (e.g. forest landscape restoration and Nature-based Solutions).
WCMC attaches great importance to addressing safeguarding and ethical considerations in all activities carried out by its staff, including where partner organisations or individuals are part of the delivery of our work. This includes children and vulnerable adults in the community who may be vulnerable to abuse. WCMC act with integrity, are transparent and expect applicants to share the same values.
If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post where you can work at the interface between business and biodiversity, we want to hear from you. Please complete both our personal details form and application form and send them together with your CV and a short covering letter through the link below by Sunday 18th April 2021. First round telephone interviews are expected to take place between the 27th and 28th of April, with second round video interviews on 12th and 13th of May.
