We are seeking an organised, responsive and dynamic individual to join our Business and Biodiversity Programme as Programme Officer, bringing a combination of technical competency along with strong communication and coordination skills. This role will work in close collaboration with other programmes, in particular our Conserving Land and Seascapes programme.
This role provides an exciting opportunity to provide technical leadership to an expanding portfolio of projects related to the extractives sector, working across both the private and public sectors. UNEP-WCMC has been working with the extractives sector since 2003 through its Proteus partnership with oil and mining companies, and since 2017 has been supporting the Norwegian Environment Agency under the Oil for Development programme.
This role will involve assisting a number of countries with mobilising and using biodiversity data for improved environmental management of the oil and gas sector. You will therefore have demonstrated skills in spatial data analyses using GIS and a familiarity with the needs of development sectors such as oil and gas. A large part of the role involves developing capacity of different stakeholders and therefore effective communication skills will be required.
You will have proven ability to produce high quality outputs, tailored to the intended audience. Furthermore you will have an understanding of managing complex projects and developing successful partnerships. If you have a genuine interest in strengthening the environmental management of the extractives sector through improved access to information and the necessary qualifications and skills to achieve this, we want to hear from you.
We will provide you with the challenge of working on high profile conservation projects, where your work really makes a difference to the field of conservation in an area aligned to our strategic aims and broader global initiatives. In addition to training and development opportunities, we offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including generous pension contributions.
If you are looking for a rewarding and challenging post where you can impress us with your technical and communication skills, we want to hear from you. Please complete our application form and send it together with your CV and a short covering letter through the link below by Sunday 3rd March 2019. Interviews are expected to be held between the 19th and 21st March 2019.
