37 hours per week based in Edinburgh
Fixed-term for 6 years initially
The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) is a world leading botanic garden based on the quality, breadth and depth of our science, plant collections, public engagement and education. The Edinburgh Biomes programme is the most ambitious project in our history: a £70 million capital build programme replacing and restoring our existing research glasshouses; creating a stunning new public glasshouse; building new research facilities and replacing aging infrastructure.
We are looking for a highly experienced Programme Director to lead the delivery of this spectacular addition to Edinburgh and Scotland’s scientific, horticultural and tourism sectors. The project is likely to be undertaken over six to seven years.
This role provides the interface between project ownership and delivery, and will be the RBGE representative responsible for the delivery of the Biomes and its various primary objectives in horticulture, research, education, and income generation. Responsible to our Regius Keeper (Chief Executive) for the implementation of Edinburgh Biomes in accordance with the Business Case, you will undertake all duties expected of a Programme Director on a large-scale project of this type.
We are looking for an exceptional individual with significant previous experience in delivering a major capital build project with multiple internal and external stakeholders. Knowledge and experience of working in a senior leadership role will be crucial, as will a sound knowledge of construction risk management. You will need to be able to demonstrate expertise in construction and project management skills, with the ability to develop, interrogate, report on, and resolve complex construction matters and their financial impact to a variety of stakeholders.
A full job description and person specification for the role can be downloaded from this page.
