Description

Are you passionate about the environment, renewable energy and transport decarbonisation? Do you have Degree in Science or Environmental Studies or relevant work experience in these fields?

Are you able to communicate complex information to a wide variety of stakeholders?

Would you like the opportunity to work in our fast-paced team and hit the ground running within your new role?

If so, we are looking for three Policy Advisors to join our Low Carbon Fuel division and we would love to hear from you!

We are looking for highly motivated policy professionals with a good scientific background and/or experience in the fields of climate change, renewable energy or sustainability to develop and implement low carbon fuels strategy and policies to help deliver UK climate change commitments.

This is a challenging and exciting area of policy, combining technical complexity and controversy with a strong international dimension. Low carbon fuels are key to reducing greenhouse gas emissions from transport. They currently provide a substantial contribution to meeting domestic carbon budgets, and there are targets to increase their uptake. There are strong links to other government policies (e.g. renewable energy, waste, green hydrogen) and COP26 could provide opportunities for international collaboration.

As our Policy Advisor, you will be responsible for developing policies and delivering complex amendments to legislation, helping to secure buy-in from a diverse set of stakeholders, and inputting to advice for Ministers on how best to decarbonise transport through incentivising novel low carbon fuels.

Responsibilities

There are three posts on offer in the Low Carbon Fuels division: one each in the Regulation, Strategy, and Advanced Fuels teams. The duties and responsibilities will vary by role (further information in the attached Role Profile), but jobholders of all posts will be expected to:

• Lead new policy development
• Work autonomously, taking responsibility for planning and delivering work to required deadlines
• Engage with key stakeholders e.g. economists, lawyers and officials from other government departments, as well as external stakeholders
• Provide advice and briefing to ministers, and draft responses to correspondence

For a more detailed insight into the three roles please refer to the role profile attached to this advert.

Please note: We are currently following Government guidelines and working from home.
Going forward it is expected that the successful candidate(s) will be required to attend the office in London approximately two days per week. Please contact the vacancy holder if you wish to discuss this further.

About You
To be successful in this role you will need to have the ability to compile, assimilate, distil, interpret and present a strong evidence base to form a sound and compelling base to inform policy making.

• You are highly driven and passionate about promoting sustainable renewable energy and addressing climate change.
• You are someone who can quickly build rapport and enjoys building effective working relationships with a wide range of stakeholders both internal and external.
• You will have strong verbal and written communication skills and you can adapt your delivery to suit a wide variety of audiences.
• You have the ability to manage a workload well, often with conflicting priorities. You will be highly resilient, adaptable and flexible, adjusting to the requirements and strategic direction of the business.
