Scottish Episcopal Church

Net Zero Empowerment Coordinator

Starting Salary   £26-33k plus benefits      Job type Remote based - Full time – 3-year contract

Do you want to join a new team committed to climate action and delivering change? Do you have a passion for engaging communities? Can you motivate and empower people into action? This role is for an organised coordinator and communicator with a flair for connecting with people.

The Scottish Episcopal Church (SEC) has a published Net Zero Action Plan 2023-30 and is building a flexible and enthusiastic team to support the implementation of its ambitious Net Zero targets.  It seeks experienced net zero specialists to provide support and guidance to churches and Dioceses.

About the Job: You will have equal opportunity to work at both national and regional levels. You will develop and coordinate a national engagement programme and deliver it through creative use of digital engagement platforms. You will coordinate knowledge and resources across the SEC. You will seek out learning and partnership opportunities to keep regional Diocese equipped and informed and further grow the SEC experience base on Net Zero.

You will also play a key role in direct engagement with individual Dioceses, working alongside the rest of the Net Zero Team to build relationships and help them develop their own action plans. You will use your knowledge and experience of net zero to provide regional empowerment opportunities and coordinate your engagement programme to share case studies nationally across the SEC.

About you: You should have experience working with community groups and particular skills in developing an engagement programme. You should have excellent digital media/web, interpersonal, and written and oral communication skills and be able to translate the concepts and practical actions of net zero to a range of faith-based audiences.

Things you need to know: You will report to the Net Zero Delivery Director and work within a new Net Zero Team to support the SEC’s seven Dioceses (regions). This role will be remote based, however regular travel to Dioceses across Scotland will be required as well as attendance at routine meetings in the General Synod Office in Edinburgh where you will meet with the rest of your team. You may be required to work some evenings and weekends.

The SEC comprises some 300 churches, with a total membership of about 24,000. The Net Zero Delivery Director is coordinating the new team and will be appointing 5 new posts.  The first round of posts to be advertised are Innovation Coordinator, Empowerment Coordinator, and Carbon Projects and Data Officer. A role focused on Sustainability and another on Heating and Energy will follow swiftly after.

All postholders will work closely as a team and provide progress reports and advice as necessary.

Starting salary is dependent on experience.

Benefits: flexible working, working from home within a remote team; non-contributory final salary pension scheme
