Created in March 2017, The Royal Parks is a charity that supports and manages 5,000 acres of historic parkland across London. Millions of Londoners and tourists visit our beautiful sites, which offer unparalleled opportunities for enjoyment, exploration and healthy living in the heart of the capital.
We look after eight of London’s largest open spaces; Hyde Park, The Green, Richmond, Greenwich, St James’s, Bushy and The Regent’s Parks, and Kensington Gardens. We also manage other important open spaces in the capital including Brompton Cemetery, Victoria Tower Gardens, Canning Green and Poet’s Corner.
We are now looking for a Project Officer to join us on a 12 month fixed-term contract, supporting our existing Mission Invertebrate project.
Mission: Invertebrate is a project that aims to enrich the wildlife in our beautiful parks by bringing together the public, ecologists and park teams to help invertebrates thrive.

The Role
As a Project Officer, you will support the delivery of Mission: Invertebrate through the development and delivery of adult learning opportunities and citizen science projects. You will also support the Project Manager with exciting habitat enhancement projects.
Specifically, your role will involve planning, developing and delivering high quality, inspiring activities focussed on invertebrate conservation including recruitment and management of volunteers, monitoring and evaluating impact and actively promoting our mission.
You will:
- Plan, develop and deliver high quality programmes of adult learning opportunities
- Recruit, train and manage volunteers for wildlife monitoring projects
- Create project plans, write risk assessments, and purchase and maintain resources as needed
- Support with development and delivery of habitat enhancement works across the parks
- Pilot new projects, working with park teams to identify park-specific needs, diversifying our learning offering
- Record, collate and analyse relevant information, producing valuable and easy to read reports
About You
To join us as a Project Officer, you will need:
- Sufficient experience in developing and supporting successful projects or programmes in the following sectors: natural sciences, ecology, zoology, parks/green spaces, horticulture or conservation, including managing budgets, reporting and evaluation
- Experience of recruiting, managing and training volunteers and managing day-today volunteer operations
- The ability to respond to changing plans and use initiative to develop new opportunities and broker new relationships
- Passion for engaging audiences regarding UK nature, particularly invertebrates
- A degree level qualification in an environmental or science subject, such as Natural Sciences, Biology, Geography, Ecology, Zoology, Conservation, or equivalent experience
- A full, valid driving licence
Ideally you will have first aid certification and a current enhanced DBS check, but this is not essential. Experience of developing and managing scientific surveys would also be beneficial.
This is a full time role, working 36 hours per week.
