Description

We are looking for a highly motivated intern with an interest in research to join our Climate Change and Biodiversity programme.

The UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC) works with scientists and policy makers worldwide to place biodiversity at the heart of environment and development decision-making to enable enlightened choices for people and the planet.

Ecosystem restoration is undertaken for a multitude of purposes: for biodiversity conservation, as a nature-based solution to climate change mitigation or adaptation needs, or to restore other ecosystem services.  This is a practical, 12 week internship that will contribute to identifying how biodiversity-focused landscape scale restoration under the Endangered Landscapes Programme can also contribute to climate change mitigation. Working with UNEP-WCMC staff, the intern will help to trial existing tools for assessment of carbon impacts of land management options, in the special context of European landscape restoration projects. This will involve working in collaboration with the RSPB on an enabling project under the Cambridge Conservation Initiative's Endangered Landscapes Programme.  It forms part of the Centre’s wider work in the run up to the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, starting in 2021.

We are looking for an Intern to start on 20th July 2020 for 12 weeks. If you are interested in this placement, please submit a CV and covering letter through the link below by 15th June 2020Please note we do not require an application form for this placement.

Please note this is not a UN post and we can only accept applications from those eligible to work in the UK.

WCMC attaches great importance to addressing safeguarding and ethical considerations in all activities carried out by its staff, including where partner organisations or individuals are part of the delivery of our work. This includes children and vulnerable adults in the community who may be vulnerable to abuse. WCMC act with integrity, are transparent and expect applicants to share the same values.

WCMC is a UK charity that promotes for public benefit the conservation, protection, enhancement and support of nature and natural resources worldwide. We do this by collecting, storing, processing, analysing, interpreting and sharing data that increase our knowledge and understanding of biodiversity and the conservation of nature. Good data are the foundation of informed decision-making and we work with many partners to help them develop their knowledge and capacity to make good decisions.

We collaborate with the United Nations Environment Programme within the UN Environment Programme World Conservation Monitoring Centre (UNEP-WCMC).
