Working in partnership with the research community, policy makers, industry and society, CEH undertakes cutting edge research to deliver world class solutions to the most complex environmental challenges facing humankind.

About the role

We are looking for an enthusiastic and committed pollution scientist with expertise in ecological impacts to lead an internationally renowned cooperative programme and research team quantifying and modelling the responses of vegetation and terrestrial ecosystems to ozone pollution from local to global scales.

Based at our Bangor site, the primary roles of this post will be to:

  • provide leadership for an international research programme involving scientists from over 50 countries and currently expanding into Asia
  • provide leadership within CEH on ozone impacts on vegetation, contributing to the strategic development of research in the Atmospheric Chemistry and Effects, Pollution and Soils and Land-use science areas
  • provide scientific leadership for a team of researchers specialising in ozone impacts, further developing world-class experimental facilities and building international networks
  • develop and secure funding for innovative research into the effects of ozone pollution on vegetation at a range of scales
  • publish, lead and co-author high profile, high impact research papers.

About you

You must have a PhD in spatial impacts modelling, plant physiology or another subject relevant to the post.

You will be a highly regarded scientist in a research area with a proven track record of high impact research in either –

  • global or regional modelling of impacts of ozone scenarios on food security, ecosystem services and/or natural capital
  • experimental investigations of the impacts of ozone on ecosystem processes.

You should have a history of attracting competitively won research income, including as principal investigator.

It would be beneficial if you had experience of working in ODA countries, including established networks of potential collaborators.
