About us

If you’re part of the Environment Agency (EA), you’re part of the solution. Working with us means protecting and improving the environment and tackling issues of national importance. We’re based across England, and our responsibilities span industry regulation, flood defences, land contamination, water quality, fisheries and conservation.

Such broad scope of work calls for diverse, multi-skilled teams. Together, we’ll promote sustainable growth, tackle climate change and secure a better future for everyone.

Our Asset Performance Teams manage flood and coastal erosion risk assets to reduce the impact of flooding and protect our communities. We’re involved in the whole lifecycle of our assets from planning, delivery and maintenance, to responding to incidents and decommissioning. It also means managing the effects of climate change.

Your role with us

This is an opportunity to build new knowledge and experience in the management of flood & coastal risk assets, which include riverbanks, sluice gates and flood storage reservoirs. You will focus on helping to manage our asset data to ensure it is of the best quality and can be relied on to inform our future investment programme. This may include site work to understand our asset base and to collect, analyse and interpret information to ensure we manage it well. Full training is offered. Incident Management forms a crucial part of the job and you will be expected to participate in a stand-by rota.

What do I need?

We are looking for enthusiastic, driven, and adaptable people to join our Asset Performance team. Your work will help the Environment Agency Inspect, repair, maintain and manage our flood risk assets and ensure delivery of river maintenance across the area.
An appreciation of geographical and/or engineering principles would be advantages.

Demonstrating an enthusiastic and positive attitude, you will be:

  • Highly organised and good at prioritising tasks
  • Proficient in the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • Capable of making decisions based on data and evidence
  • A strong team player with excellent communication skills
  • A good problem solver with plenty of initiative
  • You will need good inter-personal skills to develop relationships with internal and external customers
  • Keenness to learn and develop

Everyone starting in a new role with the Environment Agency will be welcomed into the team and given all the training and support needed to succeed.

Travel to site and across the area you work will be required, therefore, a full UK driving licence is essential.

What’s in it for you?

You’ll benefit from a culture that embraces difference and includes everyone, where you’ll feel supported and trusted to do the right thing. We’ll invest in you and allow you to grow and shape your career.

What’s more, you’ll have access to our great benefits package including:

  • A competitive salary of £25,507
  • 25 days holiday + 8 bank holidays
  • Great career opportunities
  • Maternity, paternity and adoption leave scheme
  • A range of flexible working options, plus many more!

As an organisation we strive to reflect the communities we serve, to achieve this we welcome applications from all backgrounds regardless of race, sexual orientation, and religion. We also welcome applications for part-time hours.

Responding to incidents is a central part of what we do. You will be required to have an incident role and make yourself available to respond to incidents, or provide business continuity support during an incident. This may attract an additional payment and full training and workplace adjustments will be available to support you with your incident role.
