Fisheries Project Officer

We have an exciting opportunity for a Fisheries Project Officer to join our Fisheries Management team and to play a central role in the sustainable management of the UK's fisheries.

The role of Fisheries Project Officer will give you the opportunity to work on some of the knotty issues relating to the UK's most economically important shellfish and finfish fisheries, and to work in partnership with the seafood industry, government, and research community.

As Fisheries Project Officer you will:

• Provide secretariat support to two Seafish-facilitated fisheries co-management groups – the Shellfish Industry Advisory Group and Finfish Industry Advisory Group, and their associated sub-groups.
• Help to ensure that seafood industry stakeholders can collaborate effectively to improve our fisheries by organising meetings and managing group memberships.
• Support effective delivery of group objectives by helping develop meeting resources and minutes to ensure stakeholders are kept up to date on key work areas.
• Work closely with Seafish colleagues to provide administrative assistance and support delivery of key projects.
• Contribute to Seafish work to develop Fisheries Management Plans for key commercial species in the UK – including brown crab, lobster, and whelks – to support long-term sustainability of key fish and shellfish stocks.
• Work with seafood industry stakeholders to gather information, facilitating effective communication between different groups of stakeholders, and promoting stakeholder participation in co-management activities.

We are looking for someone with:

• A relevant degree, preferably in a related discipline such as fisheries management or marine science.
• Post-graduate experience working on fisheries issues (fisheries management, fisheries policy, fisheries science and research, industry engagement) is not mandatory but would be very beneficial.
• Excellent organisational skills with a proven ability to prioritise and deliver tasks across multiple different workstreams.
• Good communication skills, both in writing and in person, and the ability to manage multi-stakeholder networks.
• Experience in producing succinct, accessible, and informative written outputs which communicate complex information in a user-friendly way.

This is a full-time, 3 years fixed-term role and can be home-based, or in either of our Edinburgh or Grimsby offices.
