Overview

The Zoological Society of London (ZSL), a charity founded in 1826, is a world-renowned centre of excellence for conservation science and applied conservation. ZSL’s purpose is to inspire, inform and empower people to stop wild animals from going extinct. This is realised by carrying out field conservation and research in over 50 countries across the globe and through education and awareness-raising at our two zoos, ZSL London Zoo and ZSL Whipsnade Zoo, inspiring people to take conservation action.

Role Profile

We are looking for a Project Officer to provide conservation technical support in the development and implementation of river-based field research and conservation initiatives. This will include training and leading volunteer citizen scientists, survey work in the field and producing technical reports for partner organisations and funders.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Project delivery within the Estuaries and Wetlands Conservation Programme focussing on project planning, implementation, analysis and interpretation of results. 
  • Training and leading citizen scientists ensuring health and safety protocols and risk assessments are fully complied with.  
  • Support staff within the programme in the production of funding proposals.
  • Assist with administrative support for the programme where required.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of effective working relationships with partners, stakeholders and funders.

Person Specification

  • MSc or equivalent experience in a relevant area 
  • Experience working in field conditions implementing science-based projects
  • Experience of working with and leading volunteers. 
  • Proficient at managing, analysing, and mapping data and writing technical reports
