Description

Have you recently graduated and would like to make a difference to society? Are you interested in the energy and climate change agenda? Can you undertake research, write for a professional audience and present the findings?

APSE Energy is a not for profit, local government energy and climate change network. We are looking for a graduate who is keen to gain research experience in this area of work and can contribute to our growing network. APSE Energy works with local councils (members) throughout the UK, sharing information, providing advice and networking opportunities to assist councils with the energy and climate change agenda.

The successful graduate will assist in monitoring and researching developments in the energy and climate change sectors which are of relevance to local government. You must be able to absorb information quickly and present it clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. You will assist in research, writing briefings, the creation of publications, events programmes, newsletters and marketing strategies and have a specific responsibility for social media content. You will work to meet the needs of the local council membership, working with local government officers and councillors.

The ideal candidate will have an understanding of the main challenges in the energy and climate change agendas and have experience of research tools and techniques in an associated field which may have been gained whilst undertaking a degree or in a work setting. A comprehensive training and development programme will be provided to the successful candidate.

You will be an enthusiastic, self-motivated and charismatic champion for APSE Energy. You must be sociable, comfortable engaging with people from a range of backgrounds and be able to grasp the importance of engagement in a membership-based organisation.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a growing organisation, to develop expertise within the dynamic fields of energy and climate change and to gain experience of the local government sector.

The Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) is owned by its members (local councils) and working on their behalf, maintains and develops a network of local government officers, councillors and trade union contacts from local councils across England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales.

APSE Energy is part of the APSE family and is a local authority energy collaboration supporting those local councils in energy efficiency, renewables and climate change ambitions.

The successful applicant will receive the following benefits:

  • Flexible working hours (Flexitime); Monday to Friday
  • We operate an occasional Working from Home Policy
  • A starting salary of £26,421
  • 24 days holiday plus all statutory public holidays
  • Can apply to join the Local Government Pension Scheme

APSE is an Investors in People Employer and is fully committed to training and developing staff.

Closing date for the receipt of applications is Monday 28 October 2024

Interviews are likely to be held: Friday 8 November 2024

This post will be offered for an initial 12-month contract subject to review but with the opportunity for the successful candidate to progress within APSE.
