Description  

We are seeking an outstanding and dynamic Director of Communities and Wildlife (Learning and Engagement) to enable communities across Sussex to take effective action for wildlife through directing an ambitious and commercially viable programme of wildlife-focused projects, events, education, courses, communications and activities, to inspire, connect and energise individuals, Trust members, community groups and organisations.

This is an exciting full time opportunity, reflecting our aim to extend our reach to new audiences and to help more people understand and take action for wildlife within their community.  

Responsibilities

 The role requires a high level of commitment to nature and the ability to:

  • Lead a professional and committed team to create exciting experiences and opportunities for all, that inspire individuals, communities, schools, visitors and our members to understand, value and act for wildlife across Sussex
  • Build upon recent learnings (during the pandemic) to utilise a range of interactive communication techniques to reach and engage with diverse audiences
  • Upscale the work of the Trust to motivate, guide and support local community groups to take action to protect and conserve their local wildlife and wild places
  • Develop our work with volunteers, to ensure we continue to attract new diverse individuals and retain their valued support and commitment
  • Oversee delivery at our visitor centres across Sussex including at the flagship Rye Harbour Discovery Centre and other high profile locations across Sussex, such as Woods Mill and Seven Sisters Country Park to ensure high standards of commercial viability, safety and sustainability.
  • Underpin our programmes and activities through ensuring resources, income and structure required for successful delivery and outcomes

The Individual

Our ideal candidate will have a passion for developing learning and community action for wildlife across a variety of audiences and be able to demonstrate:

  • Structured and strategic thinking
  • Ability to apply a creative approach across the breadth of the Trust’s engagement activity
  • Experience of leading formal and informal learning programmes and wider-community projects
  • Great people management skills and the ability to motivate, inspire and support a diverse team
  • Commercial awareness
  • A collaborative nature
