Description

We are looking for an exceptional individual to support the development of analytical frameworks that help our members assess corporate transition plan credibility. These frameworks will support engagement in high emitting sectors and tackle complex topics relevant to investors' whole portfolio such as climate solutions or carbon lock-in. These frameworks will incorporate the latest available climate science, be consistent with investor commitments and reflect best practice from other established guidance.

While this role is initially offered on a fixed term basis for 12 months, we hope that the contract can be extended.

Responsibilities

The work will comprise the following core activities:

  • Research and develop frameworks for emissions intensive sectors: Building on the existing CA100+ benchmark and incorporating best practice from other established approaches, develop analytical tools and frameworks that will help investors assess the credibility of corporate transition plans in high emitting sectors such as (e.g. Automotive, Steel, Electric utilities). These frameworks will tackle investors’ engagement challenges by asking companies to disclose relevant data and testing that data for alignment against climate scenarios.
  • Develop frameworks for investors on complex climate topics: Incorporating the latest available science, develop guidance and frameworks for investors looking to assess the transition risks posed by specific climate topics such as methane or the use of offsets in their portfolio.
  • Support the publication of these frameworks and adoption within the ecosystem: Manage the consultation process, liaising with external and internal stakeholders including investors, companies and NGOs to establish consensus positions. Support IIGCC’s engagement activities and drive adoption of published frameworks through communication with relevant external stakeholders.

Skills and Capabilities

Essential

  • Exceptional analytical skills – the ability to understand and synthesise both complex numeric and written data quickly and accurately
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills – the ability to succinctly convey technical information to non-technical audiences
  • Motivated, flexible and positive team player with proven ability to successfully manage internal and external stakeholders
  • Proven ability to lead successful collaborative research projects into complex topics
  • Demonstrable interest in, and ideally experience of, climate research
  • Demonstrable interest in, and ideally experience analysing, investments, energy markets or economics

Desirable

  • Understanding of climate scenarios and emissions budgets
  • Understanding of corporate emissions accounting and target setting principles particularly the sectoral decarbonisation approach
  • Familiarity with leading reporting frameworks including (but not limited to) CDP, SASB, TCFD and TPI.

Applications

Interested applicants should submit a Curriculum Vitae and a cover letter detailing their qualifications and experience for the role to vacancy@iigcc.org
