Overview

World Wildlife Fund (WWF), one of the world's leading conservation organizations, seeks a Chief of Party, Regional Community Response to Conservation Crime based in Lima, Peru or another location in the region.



Responsibilities

The C0P provides overall vision and leadership for the USAID Amazon Regional Community Response to Conservation Crimes program. The CoP provides managerial and technical leadership and directs the project's core team of staff and partners responsible for planning, coordination, design, and delivery of all project activities. The CoP has extensive experience promoting conservation of biodiversity and natural resources in the Amazon region, and addressing conservation crime, such as wildlife trafficking, the illegal timber trade, or illegal mining. They have led programs that have used techniques such as behaviour change communication campaigns, promoting alternative livelihoods, and engaging the private sector to change markets. They apply a participatory, adaptive management approach to ensure the program is efficient, effective, and achieves planned results. With support from WWF HQ, they ensure that the project is implemented in compliance with USAID policies and regulations, including subgrants and subcontracts. The CoP establishes and maintains good working relationships with project participants, project stakeholders, beneficiaries and other relevant organizations in the region including government partners and USAID personnel.

 

Qualifications

  • 10 years of experience implementing and managing complex, large-scale projects seeking to address wildlife trafficking, illegal logging, gold mining, or other conservation crimes in the Amazon.
  • Experience managing and implementing multi-million-dollar USAID and other donor -funded natural resource projects.
  • Experience managing projects which engage in public communications, demand reduction, and behaviour change campaigns against wildlife trafficking, illegal timber, illegal gold, or other products.
  • Experience working with Amazonian communities, indigenous peoples, the private sector, and governments to address environmental crimes.
  • Experience managing multi-country or regional programs, and coordinating activities across multiple offices.
  • Master's degree (minimum) in natural resources management, wildlife, forestry, environmental or conservation management, bioregional planning, development studies, social sciences, or relevant field.
  • Extensive understanding of development partnerships, donor strategies, functions, relevant regional intergovernmental processes, governmental and international relations.
  • Excellent written and oral skills communication and fluency in English and Spanish. Portuguese language proficiency is encouraged.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness leading and managing teams able to adapt to dynamic operating conditions to achieve project results.
