Description |

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a dynamic group of environmental professionals committed to supporting the council’s response to the climate emergency. We are looking for someone with:
- the ability and knowledge to assist with identifying opportunities and the development of projects that will contribute to a net zero emission future
- good communication skills and the ability to work co-operatively with colleagues and partner organisations
- experience of using IT systems to monitor and report statistical and qualitative information for analysis, writing technical and non-technical reports and providing technical advice to stakeholders
You will be working with others to implement the county council’s response to the declaration of a climate emergency and developing a plan to achieve net zero emissions for the council’s own operations by 2030 and working with Leicestershire businesses, partners and communities to achieve net zero carbon emissions for the county. You will have a customer focussed approach to your job coupled with the ability to work within agreed timescales and targets. This role will involve working with a small group of officers as part of a team but will also require you to work on your own initiative. Liaising with teams from across the Council you will help to identify key areas with potential for carbon reduction and assist with the production of a roadmap for the council to achieve net zero carbon. Also, you will be contributing to projects that support carbon reduction within individual homes, communities and businesses, supporting Leicestershire’s transition to a net zero carbon economy. The Carbon Reduction Officer will:
- Assist with the development and delivery of various corporate environmental projects and initiatives
- Contribute to the development and management of local environmental strategies, policies and plans through research and sound knowledge of national policy and legislation
- Maintain effective partnerships and working relationships with statutory, voluntary, private agencies and communities
- Participate in cross-departmental project teams as required to deliver key carbon savings
- Prepare, analyse and interpret data and information, producing and presenting reports for a range of stakeholders
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Relevant degree or equivalent demonstrable work experience in a relevant environmental area
- Knowledge of environmental management and climate change as well as environmental legislation and statutory duties
- Experience of contributing to the preparation of strategic and policy documents and successful delivery of projects.
- Successful negotiation and facilitation with a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Ability to monitor and report statistical and qualitative information for analysis, writing technical and non-technical reports and providing technical advice to stakeholders
- Connect with communities and localities through listening, dialogue and understanding community needs.
