Role Profile

This post will work alongside the ZSL staff and partners to support the ZSL Cameroon programme on forestry and wildlife in Cameroon in line with our country strategy and funded commitments. They will assist with supporting wildlife training, surveys and the development of wildlife management plans. The post-holder will also provide technical input on project development, design, delivery and reporting. They will assist with maintaining existing and developing new relationships and partnerships with relevant stakeholders including forestry companies and Cameroonian authorities. 

The post will be based at ZSL’s regional project office in Djoum in the South Region, with regular national and regional travel as required to the Country Office in Yaounde, national forestry and wildlife schools and other projectt offices and locations as required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Be responsible for implementation of ZSL Cameroon’s efforts to engage with forestry companies and responsible government authorities to diminish the impacts of timber exploitation on wildlife.
  • Be responsible for the wildlife surveys, inventories, and wildlife management plans in coordination with companies.
  • Be responsible for training forestry and MINFOF staff in wildlife impact assessment and survey techniques, including the use of technological data gathering tools and the SMART approach and application of the ZSL Toolkit.
  • Work with project managers to ensure successful delivery of projects to a high standard.
  • Support project development and writing of fund-raising proposals for law enforcement and forestry related work as appropriate.
  • Ensure technical and financial reports to ZSL, donors and partners are produced on time and to a professional standard.

Person Specification

  • Experience of living and working in developing countries, ideally Central Africa.
  • A higher degree in a subject related to forestry, conservation/natural resource management or equivalent level of work experience in a relevant field.
  • Proven capacity-building skills, experience in developing training resources and delivering training.
  • Experience in project design, planning and management desirable.
  • Experience of managing relationships with relevant partners.
  • Experience of technical and financial report writing.
  • Fluent spoken and excellent written French essential.
  • Ability to contribute to reports and proposals in English required.
