Description  

Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council’s (RMBC) Ecology Team, currently have two officers, Ecologist and Biological Records Officer. They are the council’s specialists in all matters relating to ecology. The Biodiversity Development Officer will add specific biodiversity knowledge to this team. The role’s primary responsibility advising on improving biodiversity and working with the team on Biodiversity Net Gain and South Yorkshires Local Nature Recovery Strategy.     

The Biodiversity Development Officer will deliver this service by advising Planning and Green Spaces on the ecological implications of development, strategic planning and other proposals and ensuring that the planning authority meets wildlife legislation, policy requirements and duties, and effectively manages and enhances the biodiversity of Rotherham.     

The post holder will also develop systems related to the long term monitoring of BNG ensuring that biodiversity enhancements are delivered.     

The role works in conjunction with other council teams to meet wider council objectives, such as colleagues in Green Spaces and Development Control, to provide a strong positive voice for biodiversity in the borough.
