A consultant ecologist’s role is to balance the objectives of developers with the needs of the environment. SWT Ecology Services is an advocate for protecting key environmental assets, whilst at the same time being a facilitator of development that improves the quality of life for local communities. SWT Ecology Services manages the challenge of reconciling the two and sees each project as an opportunity to achieve the best possible outcome for both parties.
The role
This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who wants to progress and expand their career. The role is varied and will take you throughout Surrey, and beyond, working on a diverse portfolio of projects, including large infrastructure projects, Local Planning Authorities and private home-owners. Although we are looking for someone with excellent bat skills, you will also develop your other ecological skills. You will be expected to manage projects, lead teams on a range of surveys, prepare bat mitigation licences and supervise works. You will be expected to hold a Level 2 Class bat survey licence, or be working towards your licence. As a minimum you will hold a Level 1 bat class survey licence.
The position will start in March 2020. This is a full time permanent role, however part-time will also be considered.
Your skills
You will have some demonstrable project management experience, with a particular focus on bats; experience of working under a bat licence, supervising works; ability to give high quality advice to clients and an in-depth knowledge of UK and relevant European environmental legislation and planning policy (local and national). You will also hold a CSCS card and be a member of CIEEM. Given the role involves travelling around the county, you will need to have a valid UK driver’s licence and access to your own transport. We offer a competitive salary.

We are a fully owned subsidiary of Surrey Wildlife Trust and our office is in Pirbright within the Surrey Wildlife Trust head office.
