Job Title: Air Quality Projects Lead
Job Grade: Level 4, Zone 1
Salary Range: £40,652 - £46,779
About Camden
‘Camden is building somewhere everyone can thrive, by making our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit. Because, we’re not just home to UK’s fast-growing economy. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today. And we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. Here’s where you can help decide a better future for us all.
Camden Council is the first local authority to have committed to the World Health Organization air quality standards, in recognition of citizens’ vision for a borough in which ‘no one experiences poor health because of the air they breathe in Camden’. Our new Clean Air Action Plan 2023-2026 sets out an ambitious programme of activities to be delivered over the next four years to help make this vision a reality.
Air pollution is still the largest environmental risk for public health, and the effects of London’s toxic air are felt acutely in Camden where it has a disproportionate effect upon the health of vulnerable groups within the borough.
The Air Quality Projects Lead will help to deliver Camden’s ambitious air quality programme, working to reduce air pollution and protect public health throughout the borough, engaging and empowering our communities, and tackling the health inequalities that air pollution causes.
About the role
In this exciting role you will support the Air Quality Programme Manager in delivering Camden’s ambitious air quality programme as defined by the Council’s new Clean Air Action Plan 2023-2026, helping to tackle air pollution and protecting the health of everyone who lives, works and learns in the borough.
You will deliver tangible air quality and public health benefits for Camden’s communities by designing and delivering a range of innovative projects in collaboration with Public Health colleagues and other stakeholders including residents, businesses, schools, the NHS, universities, and charitable organisations. You will produce grant funding bids to support delivery of the air quality programme and will have an opportunity to lead large-scale, high-impact projects spanning multiple London local authorities, as part of Camden’s leading role for air quality action.
The Air Quality Projects Lead will be responsible for delivering our Clean Air for Camden communications and engagement campaign to raise public awareness about air pollution, empowering communities with the knowledge and resources to take action to reduce emissions and protect health. You will build partnerships with communities and other stakeholders throughout the borough to realise the ‘shared endeavour’ principle underpinning Camden’s approach to tackling the air quality health crisis and the health inequalities worsened by air pollution.
Camden’s air quality programme must adapt to the latest science and to the needs of our communities, and in this role you will help to ensure that we use our resources efficiently and with maximum impact to improve public health and the environment.
The role will support the Air Quality Programme Manager in fulfilling Camden’s statutory duties as part of the London Local Air Quality Management framework, through the production of public-facing Annual Status Reports and other legal requirements.
