Global Canopy is a data-driven think tank that targets the market forces destroying nature. We do this by improving transparency and accountability. We provide innovative open-access data, clear metrics, and actionable insights to leading companies, financial institutions, governments and campaigning organisations worldwide.
Trase is jointly led by SEI and Global Canopy with many additional partners and close collaborators. The Trase team is made up of over 30 individuals, located in nine countries, brought together by enthusiasm, curiosity and drive. Trase is a pioneering sustainability data and intelligence platform that reveals the connections between consumers, producers and investors, as well as the environmental and social impacts linked to global supply chains. The Trase approach draws on vast sets of production, trade, customs and financial data, for the first time laying bare the flows of globally-traded commodities – such as palm oil, soya, and beef at scale, as well as the flows of capital used to finance this trade.
Trase, like all of Global Canopy’s platforms, is open access and the data is available for anyone to download. Those who wish to use the data in a specific context - like for a company to understand its own risk exposure - usually carry out further analysis using the data. We do some of this bespoke analysis in-house but, to increase awareness and have an impact on a big scale, we want to enable many more organisations to do so too. Supporting other organisations to use Trase is central to the Trase strategy for the next five year. That’s where you come in.
You’ll be working with organisations around the world. Many of them will have been commissioned by companies and financial institutions to carry out risk-screening and strategic planning. Others will be producing investigative original content, to which our data can provide inputs. Some of these intermediary and multiplier organisations are commercial consultancies, others are not-for-profits, NGOs and media organisations.
To be successful in this role, these are the things that will matter the most:
-
Experience working with environmental impact and/or sustainability projects
-
A curiosity for the power of data to tell stories
-
Openness to start new conversations, engage, develop and maintain relationships with key individuals and organisations
-
Happy working in a team while also bringing new ideas and approaches, thinking creatively and challenging assumptions
