Description  

Ecological advice is an important part of PBA’s service offering. Our Ecology team works closely with other environmental specialists, collaborating on multi-disciplinary projects to deliver relevant, pragmatic consultancy advice that adds value for our clients and communities.

Due to growth in the volume and diversity of projects, we are currently seeking to recruit an experienced Ecological Consultant on a permanent basis to be based in our Reading or Bristol office. This is an exciting opportunity to join a growing business area within our multidisciplinary practice and forge close ties with our internal and external clients.

Key responsibilities / duties include:

  • Co-ordination and management of ecology consultancy services within Peter Brett Associates.
  • Taking a lead role in the management of projects.
  • Working with the existing team to manage and coordinate workloads, plan future growth and resourcing requirements, and develop a strategy for the growth of the ecology business across PBA.
  • Developing the PBA ecology business in the external market to provide our existing and new clients with an enhanced range of services. 
  • Technical review and approval of sub-contractors reports.
  • Briefing and managing ecology sub-contractors technical and financial performance.
  • Client liaison and development ecology capability within the Practice.
  • Resource management and control.
  • Writing bids, costing projects and undertaking technical work to support projects as appropriate.
  • Managing the commercial elements of ecology work and associated commercial risks and opportunities.
  • Manage project accounts and ensure that appropriate financial governance applied to all projects.
  • Take responsibility for the direction, mentoring, training and performance management of team members.
  • Take ownership of and deliver a programme of continuous improvement.

About You

The ideal candidate will be a positive and enthusiastic team player, who has a Degree or equivalent in Ecology, Conservation, Earth Sciences or a related topic.

The ideal candidates should have:

  • Proven experience of team, project and sub-contractor management.
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully managing multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Excellent project and financial management skills.
  • Good knowledge of environmental planning issues outside their own discipline, to provide rounded consultancy advice to our clients.
  • Proven experience of financial management and have the ability to effectively manage resources.
  • Experience of compiling fee proposals and project budgets.
  • Be a known and recognized expert in their own field.
  • Have excellent communication and written skills with the ability to both compile and check reports.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Chartership or incorporated membership of your relevant professional institution.
  • Expert witness and public inquiry experience is desirable.
