Description

Join Britain’s biggest walking charity to help more people enjoy the benefits of walking.

We are looking for an enthusiastic media & PR officer who can successfully promote our walking festival events to the media and the wider public. This is a band 3 role in the engagement team, which is in the advocacy and engagement division.

Reporting to the senior media & PR officer, you will work with colleagues across a multi-disciplinary team encompassing campaigns, advocacy, fundraising, media & PR, comms and digital and work closely with the delivery team, who are responsible for working with volunteers to deliver the national walking festivals. The post is for a fixed-term six month period.

This is a new role where you will be expected to focus your time on promoting the walking festival events. This will sit alongside the promotion of the other areas of Ramblers work, undertaken by the senior media & PR officer.

We see this as a good opportunity for someone looking to manage a national PR programme for nationwide events, targeting national, consumer, broadcast, online, trade and regional media.

The Challenge:

It is important that the successful candidate is:

  • Experienced, with a minimum two years’ experience of working in a busy press office or PR agency, with proven PR campaign management skills
  • Effective, creative and proactive, with a proven track record of generating targeted media coverage at local and national level.
  • An excellent written and verbal communicator
  • Organised, with the skills to manage PR programmes, prioritise workloads and work to tight deadlines
  • A team player, with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work across different teams within the organisation.

As a member of a small, busy, multi-disciplinary team you may from time to time be required to support activities outside of your core discipline. We’re also a team that likes to try new things, so creativity is welcome!

At the same time you will need to be as passionate about walking as we are, with the confidence, resilience and commitment to ensure plans happen.

Success Measures

You will be able to:

  • Identify and understand different audiences and the best ways to reach them;
  • Plan, manage and deliver PR programmes to secure targeted media coverage;
  • Demonstrate success at building key media relationships;
  • Manage tight deadlines, conflicting priorities and a diverse workload;
  • Use your written communication skills to inspire people to get involved with the Ramblers and take part in our festivals;
  • Demonstrate that you understand and support the Ramblers’ core values.

The Ramblers are an equal opportunities employer.  We warmly welcome applications from appropriately qualified people from all sections of the community and aim to promote diversity.
