Description

Do you want to improve the lives of many and help to protect the planet that we depend on for our survival? We’re looking for a talented Campaign Director to provide exceptional leadership for our Forests, Land and Climate team.

About us

Our vision is simple: we want a better world - where corruption is challenged and accountability prevails, all can thrive within the planet’s boundaries, and governments act in the public interest.

We’re pioneers and innovators in tackling natural resource misuse, conflict and corruption: issues that are assumed to be inevitable or intractable or which are simply not recognised at all.

About the role

Reporting to the Director of Campaigns, Planning and Evaluation, you’ll create strategic direction for the Forests, Land and Climate campaigns.

You’ll lead and inspire a team of experienced campaigners and policy advisors to deliver innovative and powerful campaigns that achieve change in the world, effectively managing performance.

You will be creating an effective annual plan to ensure your strand provides outputs in line with the organisation’s overall strategy. Using close operational oversight, you will be ensuring that campaigns are well planned (ensuring that any physical, digital, financial, legal and reputational risks are managed effectively), and delivered within agreed budgets, timeframes and meeting donor requirements. You will also manage the strand’s finances and provide reports regularly on all major aspects of the strand’s work.

Representing Global Witness externally you’ll use your ability to influence and persuade to bring attention to the issues we’re working on with the media, governments, peer organisations and other audiences. You will develop and maintain positive relationships with key stakeholders including funders, donors, civil society organisations and relevant government departments. You’ll work collaboratively with the Development team to plan and implement the strand’s fundraising strategy and meet donor reporting requirements.

About you

Having worked in a similar leadership role in an international NGO you’ll be confident managing cross-functional and global teams.

You’ll have a strong background in campaigning, advocacy and ideally investigations, possessing impressive political judgement and excellent project management skills. You’ll be able to demonstrate your proven ability to lead and manage operations effectively and efficiently.  You will demonstrate your significant management experience, with the proven ability to get the best out of people; trusting, developing and enabling your team to do amazing work.

Above all we know that the best results happen when we work together so you’ll bring a collaborative approach to achieve change. Working closely with a senior management team to maintain an integrated and strategic approach across the organisation, you will be taking ownership and responsibility for the delivery of objectives.

Your significant experience in developing and communicating a strategic vision, and experience in leading the strategic development of teams, will demonstrate  your strong intellectual leadership and direction. Building stakeholder relationships and complex programmes, you will be resilient and focused, with the capacity to respond to complex and competing demands in a fast paced environment.

As a plus, you will have experience of leading in-country investigations and advocacy campaigns in high risk environments and an extensive knowledge of national and international forests, land and climate policy and experience in related advocacy.

Working for us

We aim to be a diverse and inclusive place to work.  We value new perspectives, original ideas and different ways of working. We believe that different views and experiences improve the way we do our work. We do our best to make our jobs accessible to all regardless of gender, ethnicity, age, disability, sexual orientation or identity.
