Tower Hamlets is a culturally diverse Borough in which an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Arboricultural Officer. This post offers an interesting and challenging opportunity for an experienced Arboriculturlist who will be expected to work as part of the team alongside the Senior Arboriculture Officer to assist with the strategic management and development of the Boroughs diverse trees and woodland within the Borough where you will be required to contribute in formulating tree policy in Tower Hamlets as part of the Planning and Development process
The Council is committed to improving the quality of its green assets including trees, and the Arboriculture Officer will have a key role in supporting this program.
The key responsibilities for the role of Aboricultural officer are as follows:
Implement the Council’s strategy for the management and enhancement of the tree population and woodland in the borough.
Develop, maintain and use systems for collecting, updating and manipulating data using Ezytreev system on the Council’s tree stock and Programme, schedule and undertake tree and site inspections, and surveys.
Monitor arboriculture, tree planting and other contracts and prepare tenders, let and monitor contracts for minor and ad-hoc works on behalf of Communities, Localities and Culture, client departments e.g. Housing and Highways and other commissioning organisations and liaise with and advise various bodies and individuals on tree-related issues.

You should have a minimum Level 3 Arboricultural qualification or equivalent. You will also have appropriate skills in tree identification, and be able to carry out surveys and assess the condition and visual amenity of trees.
A thorough understanding of trees and their management in the public realm, including a sound knowledge of related legislation, codes of practice and risk management.
Suitable relevant experience of managing innovative tree services.
Sound organisational skills with knowledge and experience of the use of service relevant information technology
A successful track record of developing creative and sustainable tree planting and related educational opportunities including securing external funding.
Experience in managing budgets.
A proactive approach in terms of promoting community and third sector involvement.
Good written and verbal communication skills are essential as are IT and keyboard skills. You will have the ability to organise your own priorities and work independently.
The authority uses Ezytreev and a good knowledge of this tree management system would be advantageous.
The ability to be a strong advocate for trees and the positive role they play in environmental management and quality.
Experience in planning and development work.
Experience and knowledge of Tree Preservation Orders and UK planning legislation.
A valid UK driving licence and a vehicle available for work
